Trim your Christmas gift list: Make a list and check it twice
You can save money this season without being a Scrooge.
Here’s how to pare down your gift list while still spreading plenty of holiday cheer:
· Are you exchanging gifts with a blast from the past out of habit? There’s no reason to continue to buy gifts for people who are no longer meaningful to you. If you have a former colleague or neighbor with whom you no longer socialize, it’s okay to edit them off your list.
· Communication is key. Tell those you normally exchange gifts with well in advance that you’d like to skip this custom, and that they can adjust their gift list accordingly. Most people are grateful for the opportunity to cut back.
· Limit family gifts to small children.
· Draw names using the Secret Santa gift-giving system: Everyone will receive a gift while cutting back the financial burden.
· Can’t pare down your list? Give homemade treats instead of store-bought products.
Have you made a no-gift pact with your friends and family?
